Para-athlete Emanoel Ferreira da Silva, 14 years old, a 7th year student at the Welber Eimer Quemel Gonçalves State Education Center, in the municipality of Laranjal do Jari, was one of the highlights of the 2023 School Paralympics, held in the Capital of São Paulo, at the Training Center Brazilian Paralympic.
During the competitions Emanoel won 2 medals: silver in singles and bronze in pairs with a colleague from Maranhão, in table tennis. Even though he didn’t win the long-awaited gold, his story enchanted the Brazilian Paralympic Committee team: Emanoel never trained table tennis professionally in Laranjal do Jari and only traveled to São Paulo because he won the municipal table tennis championship.
When Emanoel arrived in Macapá, he trained with the Amapá table tennis team for four days at the Table Tennis High Performance Training Center, in Buritizal.
According to Danilo Bolli, who is part of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee Staff, “he turned out to be a talent and knows several tricks”. Emanoel was invited to the Paralympic School Camping, which takes place during the January and July holidays for intensive training and increased performance for 150 athletes chosen from among the 3,500 participants.
