Rebeca Andrade shone on Tuesday night (24) to win the gold medal in the jumping event on the table at the Pan American Games, held in Santiago (Chile). The Brazilian took the highest place on the podium with an average of 14,983 points (15,333 and 14,633), surpassing the North American Jordan Chiles (silver with 14,150 points) and the Mexican Natalia Escalera (bronze with 13,333 points).
The Brazilian has an impressive track record on the device, in which she already has an Olympic gold medal, obtained in Tokyo (Japan) in 2021, and two world medals, obtained in 2021 in Kitakyushu (Japan) and this year in Antwerp (Belgium). This Tuesday’s achievement is the first in a Pan American edition.
“I’m very happy and honored to have managed to make a very good jump. After such a long competition, which was the World Cup [da Antuérpia], and making good presentations, I think that was our main objective. The result is a consequence […]. This Tuesday also reserved a medal in the men’s competition. Arthur Nory was second best on floor to take silver. Canadian Felix Dolci won gold and Colombian Juan Larrahondo bronze.
Gold in taekwondo
Another sport to guarantee gold for Brazil was taekwondo. In the men’s team competition, Edival Pontes, Paulo Ricardo and Maicon Andrade defeated Chile 48-16 to take first place. “It was exciting. It’s the first time we fought as teams and it was magical”, said Edival, known as Netinho.
The women’s team secured bronze with Caroline Gomes, Maria Clara Pacheco and Sandy Macedo after a 61-60 defeat to Mexico, the sport’s greatest power in the Americas.
