Palmeiras beats América and could be champion next Sunday – 11/29/2023 – Sports

Palmeiras had a practically perfect night this Wednesday (29). In addition to beating América-MG 4-0, at Allianz Parque, Flamengo stumbled against Atlético Mineiro to finish the 36th round of the Brazilian Championship as the only team that depends only on its strength to be champion.

This could happen as early as next Sunday (3). The calculation is simple: the team only needs to defeat Fluminense, at home, and count on the stumbles of Botafogo, Atlético Mineiro and Flamengo, respectively, second, third and fourth placed.

While the Alviverde team reached 66 points this Wednesday, the other contenders for the Brazilian title are tied with 63. Palmeiras will guarantee the title if they finish Sunday with a four-point advantage over their opponents.

The favorable situation was built with goals from Endrick, after two minutes, and Éder (own goal), 40, both in the first half, in which the home team dominated the opponent. In the final stage, Flaco López, at 43 and 47, closed the account of the game in which Palmeiras, from the beginning, appeared confident and dominant.

When the Alviverde team entered the field, Abel Ferreira’s men already knew they could open up an important advantage in the standings. Earlier, Flamengo, then second placed tied with the Alviverde team, had been defeated by Atlético Mineiro 3-0, at Maracanã.

With the result, the red and black team interrupted their rise in the competition, stopped at 63 points, and saw the Minas Gerais team overtake them, with the same score, but with a better goal difference (22 to 14).

In the next round, Flamengo hosts Cuiabá, Sunday (3), at Maracanã, at 4pm. Atlético-MG will play on Saturday (2), against São Paulo, at 9pm, at Arena MRV.

In a duel played at the same time as the match at Allianz Parque, Botafogo again let a victory slip away in stoppage time and only drew with Coritiba, 1-1.

Santos loses to Fluminense at home and remains threatened

Still threatened with relegation in the Brazilian Championship, Santos ended up defeated by Fluminense this Wednesday (29), 3-0, in Vila Belmiro.

The Santos team had an apathetic performance, practically not seeing the color of the ball — the visitors had 70% possession —, while the current Libertadores champions managed to prevail with goals from Marinelli, Arias and Cano.

The Vila team remains with 43 points, just two more than Bahia, the first team in the relegation zone — also this Wednesday, the Bahian club ended up defeated by São Paulo, 1-0, at home.

In the next round, Santos returns to the field against Athletico Paranense, on Sunday (3), at 6:30 pm. Bahia, in turn, visits the already relegated América Mineiro, also on Sunday, earlier, at 4pm.
