Palmeiras advances in Libertadores and will face Boca – 08/30/2023 – Sport

After winning the first game against Deportivo Pereira by 4-0, last week, in Colombia, Palmeiras didn’t have to make a lot of effort this Wednesday (30) to confirm their qualification for the Libertadores semifinals. At Allianz Parque, it was a goalless draw.

This is the fourth consecutive time that the alviverde team advances to the penultimate stage of the competition, as it also reached this stage in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

The last Brazilian club to achieve this feat was Santos in Pelé’s time. Between 1962 and 1965, the alvinegro da Baixada also reached four semifinals in a row, having finished as champion in 1962 and 1963.

Currently, Palmeiras is looking for its fourth mug. In the club gallery, there are already the trophies of the 1999, 2020 and 2021 editions.

In the next phase, the alviverde formation will face Boca Juniors. Also this Wednesday, the second biggest winner of the Libertadores, with six titles, eliminated Racing, on penalties, after a new goalless draw against the Argentine rival.

The formation led by Abel Ferreira, in turn, had an easier time advancing in the tournament and played at home with the regulation under their arm after thrashing Deportivo Pereira in the first clash.

Without the need to win the match and being able to lose by up to three goals difference, he didn’t make much effort to break through the Colombian defense. The visitors even tried, at least, to leave a mark on the scoreboard, but the most they managed was a ball on the crossbar, still in the first half.

In the second half, they still had a player expelled, when Juan Quintero took the second yellow already in the 31st minute, making the club’s situation even more difficult.

On the other side of the bracket, Internacional is another Brazilian club that is also waiting for its next rival in the tournament. Responsible for eliminating Bolívar, the team from Rio Grande do Sul will face the winner of the confrontation between Fluminense and Olímpia. In the first leg, the Cariocas beat the Paraguayans by 2-0. The second match will be this Thursday (31st), in Paraguay.
