Padilha says that Health ‘is not in the quota’ of any party – 06/19/2023 – Politics

The Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, said this Monday (19) that President Lula (PT) made it clear that the Ministry of Health is not in the “partisan quota of any party”.

The person responsible for the government’s political articulation also denied that there were requests from the mayor, deputy Arthur Lira (PP-AL), for the portfolio.

Without dealing specifically with the case of the Minister of Tourism, Daniela Carneiro, Padilha also stated that the demands for the reformulation of nominations for the União Brasil government are “on the government’s agenda” and that they should be addressed “in the coming days”.

Padilha gave an interview to journalists this Monday afternoon, after meeting with the president. The minister mentioned in his opening speech that he was listening to “gossip” and seeing news pointing out that Lira had asked the government to appoint the Ministry of Health.

And he added that Lula, since the formation of his team, during the work of the transition cabinet, made it clear that Health was not open for negotiations, that a technical name would be indicated.

In recent days, rumors have emerged that the centrão, the political bloc headed by Lira, intended to indicate a name to replace Nísia Trindade.

“I want to be fair with President Arthur Lira, from the Chamber, because I have heard a lot of comments, press, news, rumors that President Arthur Lira would have made a request, a claim for President Lula’s government to occupy the Ministry of Health I want to be fair with President Arthur Lira. Both for me and for President Lula, at no time did President Arthur Lira claim any government ministry”, said the minister.

Padilha’s meeting with the president takes place amid pressure from União Brasil to replace Daniela Carneiro with deputy Celso Sabino (União Brasil-PA) in the Tourism portfolio. The caption leadership argues that it was an indication of the personal quota and not of the party.

In addition, Daniela has already announced that she will leave União Brasil. Her husband, the mayor of Belford Roxo (RJ), Waguinho, has already migrated to the Republicans.
