Padilha indicates new adhesions to the government and cites opposition – 07/07/2023 – Politics

Minister Alexandre Padilha (SRI) said this Friday (7) that there is still no definition for changes in other ministries, in addition to the imminent exchange in Tourism, but that the government is open to discussing the entry of other parties to the Esplanada, including with opposition lawmakers.

“There is no definition by the government regarding this [ministérios abertos para negociação]. This week we focused on an effort so that we could complete the outcome of the reorganization of ministries of parties that already make up the government and wanted to reformulate nominees”, said Padilha, in reference to the exchange in Tourism, demanded by União Brasil.

“We do not discuss other spaces, but I want to say that the government is absolutely open to discussing the entry into government of other political forces. (…) Especially parliamentarians who either campaigned for President Lula or who clearly signaled the defense of government, especially from the 8th of January.”

The statement was given to journalists at the Alvorada Palace, after a meeting with President Lula (PT), this Friday morning.

Afterwards, he concluded that even members of the opposition – PP, PL and Republicans – can compose the government.

“In these three parties, you have several parliamentarians who have already participated in the first round of President Lula’s campaign on that front, already in some way dialogue in their states with guidelines for the government and several parliamentarians who got even closer to the government after coup acts .”

The PL is the party of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). In the vote on the tax reform, there were 20 votes in favor of the proposal, despite the resounding opposition of the former representative and the party itself.

Bolsonaro’s move to elect the tributary as his first major act in the opposition led to a split on the right, a disagreement with Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (São Paulo) and also to his first defeat.

On Thursday night, SBT aired an interview with Lula that same morning. He was questioned about pressure from centrão members by the Ministry of Regional Development, commanded today by Wellington Dias.

The Chief Executive said that the government owns a ministry, without mentioning any specifically.

“It is not the person who wants to join the government who chooses the position. The government chooses the position. If I have to make an agreement with a political party, I will say I have such a position, such a ministry, to know if you want to participate or not Otherwise, you don’t govern. It’s not the party that owns the ministry, it’s the government that owns the ministry, the choice is up to the government,” said Lula.

The PEC (proposed amendment to the Constitution) was approved, in the first round, with 382 votes, after 30 years of discussion.

According to Padilha, President Lula called Arthur Lira (PP-AL) this morning to thank him for his commitment to reform and congratulate him for his effort. From Alvorada, the minister of political articulation went to the Planalto Palace, where he had a meeting with Luciano Bivar, president of União Brasil.

The party was still waiting on Thursday, in a meeting between Lula and Daniela Carneiro, for the minister’s departure from office. A first signal from Planalto came against the grain: not only would she remain in the post, for the time being, but the government said it still expected votes on economic agendas in the Chamber.

The reaction was immediate and parliamentarians sent their discontent with the government to the Institutional Relations Secretariat. In the Chamber, a wing of the Union started to defend not voting on the tax reform.

It was up to Padilha, in a note, to confirm the departure of Daniela Carneiro and the appointment of Deputy Celso Sabino (União-PA), although without defining a date. The party is still negotiating other details of the nomination and positions to make the exchange official.

According to Padilha, who told journalists this morning, the change in the ministry should take place next week, after a meeting with Union leaders. He said that he even wants to promote a meeting between them and President Lula, which has not yet occurred.

The minister of political articulation also stated that it was discussed with the mayor of Belford Roxo and Daniela’s husband, Waguinho, that she assume a position of deputy leader in the Chamber or in Congress – she was elected federal deputy last year.
