Orfeu has launched a new line of coffee which, unlike the brand’s other regular lines, will not be a blend of different varieties. Instead, all coffee is made up of beans of the same type.

The Varietal line comes in three versions: Acauã, Arara and Japi.

In the wine world, it is common for labels to be from a single grape variety, such as chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon, malbec, etc. In big brand coffees, however, blends still predominate, which are mixtures that companies make from different varieties in order to achieve a standard sensory profile.

Now, Orfeu launches the Varietal line to highlight the natural characteristics of each coffee variety, all from the Arabica species.

Arara has a medium-light roast, velvety body, high sweetness and balanced acidity, with notes of brown sugar, garapa and honey. Acauã is more balanced and creamy in body, with high sweetness and acidity and finishes with notes of clove and cinnamon. More intense, Japi has a high sweetness and aroma of dark chocolate, chestnut and hazelnut.

All of them are available in grains, roasted and ground (R$ 32.20 – 250g) and in capsules for Nespresso machines.

OTHER NEWS FROM THE COFFEE MARKET

HAVANA AND ILLY – Argentine Havanna announced a partnership with Italian illy for the Brazilian summer. Illy coffee iced cream (from R$15) is prepared with 100% illy arabica espresso and micro ice crystals, which gives the drink a creamy texture. The brand suggests that it be paired with whipped cream and the Argentine company’s traditional dulce de leche.

COFFEE INDUSTRY COMPENSATES EMISSIONS – Abic (Brazilian Coffee Industry Association) carried out a symbolic carbon neutralization action last Monday (22) at the sector’s annual meeting, which took place in November last year. The project planted 2,624 tree seedlings in a private reserve in the Cerrado. Although modest, the initiative shows that even the traditional coffee industry is attentive to the demands of the ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) agenda.
