Opposition wants to create subcommittee in the CPMI of 8/1 to hear prisoners of the acts in Brasilia

The opposition parliamentarians in the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) of the acts of January 8 are seeking the last attempt of resistance against the governing majority, which has been prioritizing its own demands and annulling all unwanted requests.

During a tense meeting that took place last Thursday morning (15), the members of the board of directors of the collegiate, made up of deputy president Arthur Maia (União Brasil-BA), vice-president Cid Gomes (PDT-CE), the second vice-president Magno Malta (PL-ES) and rapporteur Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), debated the proposal of oppositionists to create at least two subcommittees with the aim of listening to people in Brasília the day after the acts of vandalism in the Square of the Three Powers.

According to Magno Malta, the president of the collegiate agreed with the initiative and should take it to the plenary at the next meeting, this Tuesday (20). “The Bureau’s procedural meeting discussed something essential. We cannot accept that government supporters who, until recently, said they were against these investigations, now dictate the direction of the commission in this way. This CPMI is an instrument of the minority and, as a minority, it only has its voice to fight and defend what it believes to be fair and right. I hope that the decisions taken are fulfilled”, said the senator to People’s Gazette.

Currently, 751 people have been imprisoned for six months in the penitentiaries of Papuda (men) and Colmeia (women), and 655 have been released to respond with precautionary measures. In all, 1,406 people were arrested on 9 January.

Malta expressed hope that the deal will be approved, considering that “the government people have hijacked the CPMI and made it clear that they will not allow the opposition to investigate anything in order to advance in the search for the whole truth”.

He hopes for an improvement in the functioning of the commission, considering the discomfort caused by the overthrow of all the opposition’s requests at the last meeting, held on Tuesday (13).

The decision not to summon the former Minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI), General Marco Gonçalves Dias, and the current Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, key witnesses to elucidate the hypothesis of omission by the federal authorities in the episode of 8 January, was classified by different opposition parliamentarians as a “confession of guilt”.
