Opposition to present request for impeachment of Barroso on Wednesday

Opposition deputies and senators will present a request for impeachment of Minister Luiz Roberto Barroso, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), this Wednesday (19) for the lines that he would have fought against “Bolsonarism”. The presentation is scheduled for 10 am, in Congress, and will be forwarded to the President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG).
According to Senator Jorge Seif (PL-SC) and Deputy Carlos Jordy (PL-RJ), Barroso would have failed to comply with the legislation that provides for crimes of responsibility on the part of members of the Supreme Court. The Rio de Janeiro parliamentarian says that Pacheco will prevaricate and will be “conniving with contempt for the Constitution” if he does not accept the request, according to a statement to the Power 360.
Jordy says he already has the signal that 79 deputies and 11 senators will sign the request. Despite this, the president of the Senate said, last week, that an impeachment request is unlikely to advance in the house, but classified the magistrate’s speeches as “inappropriate, inappropriate and unfortunate”.
“As an extreme measure, it is better to seek to preserve consensus before dissent”, said Pacheco in reference to avoiding an impeachment that could lead to a “rupture”.
Last week, Barroso was booed during a speech at the 59th Congress of the National Union of Students (UNE), and said that “nothing that is happening here is strange to me. I’ve already faced the dictatorship and I’ve already faced Bolsonarism. I’m not afraid of boos because we have a country to build. We defeated Bolsonarism to allow democracy and the free manifestation of all people”.
The following day, the STF came out in defense of the magistrate and said that the speech did not refer to “the performance of any institution”, but “to the popular vote”.
