Opposition calls for Lula’s impeachment for calling Dilma’s departure a coup

A group of 41 federal deputies filed, on Wednesday night (30), an impeachment request against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for “insistently” attributing the impeachment of former President Dilma Rousseff to a ” coup d’etat”. The request was initially submitted by Deputy Ubiratan Sanderson (PL-RS).

Last Friday (25th), Lula said that “Brazil owes President Dilma an apology, because she was frivolously impeached”. to maintain the filing of an impropriety action that based the impeachment process against the former president.

According to Lula, the decision is proof that there was a “coup” in Brazil in 2016. The petista, however, was not acquitted. The decision at the TRF only filed an impropriety action on the “fiscal pedaling” case.

In the document, the parliamentarians point out that the president lied about the “acquittal” of Dilma by recent decision of the TRF-1. They still argue that the PT committed a crime of responsibility.

“By publishing on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic the speech that the impeachment of former President Dilma Rousseff was a coup d’état, the aforementioned president violated administrative probity by proceeding in a manner incompatible with dignity, honor and decorum. of the position he holds on behalf of Brazilian society as a whole,” says the request.

According to the parliamentarians, the Legislative power, like the Judiciary itself, must “respond firmly to the false accusation made against the Powers of the Republic and that, as a matter of urgency, the immediate measures provided for in Brazilian legislation be taken”.

The admission of the impeachment request now depends on the approval of the mayor, Arthur Lira (Pros-AL). If approved, the request is forwarded to the Special Committee, which will be formed within 48 hours. Once the impeachment is admitted, the accused is communicated and has up to 10 sessions to manifest before the vote in plenary.
