Opposition associates Lula’s speech with PCC plan against Moro – 03/22/2023 – Politics

Opposition parliamentarians try this Wednesday (22) to associate the alleged plan of the criminal faction PCC against senator and former minister Sergio Moro (União Brasil-PR) to the speech of a day before President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) that he was thinking about revenge when he was imprisoned in Curitiba.

The faction’s plan came to light this Wednesday after the Federal Police launched an operation to execute 24 search and seizure warrants, 7 preventive arrest warrants and 4 temporary arrest warrants against the suspects. At least 9 people were arrested.

This Tuesday, Lula and Moro returned to exchange barbs due to Operation Lava Jato. Lula recalled that, during the period in which he was imprisoned, he used to tell prosecutors who came to visit him that he would “fuck that Moro”. The senator responded on the same day and said that the president wants to take revenge on the Brazilian people.

This Wednesday, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) expressed solidarity with Moro and prosecutor Lincoln Gakiya —who would also be targeted by criminals— and recalled the murder of former mayor of Santo André (SP) Celso Daniel, in 2002.

“In 2002 Celso Daniel, in 2018 Jair Bolsonaro and now Sergio Moro. Everything cannot be just a coincidence. Absolute power at any price has always been the goal of the left. The CPMI [comissão parlamentar mista de investigação] haunts the enemies of democracy,” he wrote on social media.

Bolsonarist federal deputy Filipe Barros (PL-PR) said that Lula’s speech was “the authorization that the PCC needed to execute the plan” against the senator. The parliamentarian stated that the PF “acted quickly” and said that the case will have developments in Congress.

Members of the government and allies in Congress refuted the connection that the opposition makes between Lula’s speech and the criminals’ plan.

“There is no possibility of a link between President Lula’s manifestation and the operation that was carried out. Quite the contrary, I think that the operation is exactly a demonstration of this exemption”, told journalists the minister of the Presidency’s Communication Secretariat (Secom ), Paulo Pimenta.

“At the demonstration, President Lula reported the feeling of injustice and indignation. Absolutely natural and understandable for someone who was detained for 580 days in solitary confinement and then had all his processes annulled”, he added.

Pimenta said that the operation is a demonstration that the PF is republican and that it is no longer equipped.

The leader of the government in Congress, Senator Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede-AP), stated that the operation shows that the Federal Police’s equipment is “over”. According to him, in other times, perhaps the PF “would not even have approached, carried out an investigation like this, quickly” to intervene.

“The Minister of Justice would not make a public statement informing the nature of the investigation, of the PF action, if he had some reason of a political nature. carrying out this operation today is the most complete proof that that time is over”, he said.

PT president, federal deputy Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), also spoke about the case on social networks. “A partial judge, who didn’t care about the hatred he fueled with Lava Jato, has a lesson in civility and democracy from the Lula government,” she said.

Moro said on social media that he will make a statement on the Federal Police’s action and the PCC’s plan in the Senate plenary. The former judge of Operation Lava Jato relies on security from the Legislative Police since he took office.

“On the PCC’s retaliation plans against me, my family and other public agents, I will make a statement in the afternoon from the Senate tribune. For now, I thank the PF, PM/PR, Senate and Chamber legislative police, PM/ SP, MPE/SP, and their leaders for the support and work done”, said Moro in the morning.

The PCC’s plan against the senator was also used by the president of the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission) of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), to cancel this Wednesday’s session.

Alcolumbre’s advisory said that there was no minimum number of parliamentarians, in addition to “great commotion” surrounding the case.

As Bolsonaro’s Minister of Justice and Public Security, Moro transferred several PCC chiefs, including Marcos Willians Herbas Camacho, known as Marcola, to the federal penitentiary system.

The main head of the PCC was transferred from the São Paulo state penitentiary system to the federal penitentiary in Brasília in February 2019. Months later, he went to a federal unit in Rondônia and then returned to the federal capital.

Moro was the judge responsible for a series of convictions for the Lava Jato operation, including the one that kept current President Lula (PT) in prison for 580 days between 2018 and 2019. take over as Minister of Justice under Bolsonaro.

In 2020, however, Moro left the Bolsonaro government, breaking with the president, and, in 2021, he was considered partial by the STF (Federal Supreme Court) in condemning Lula.

The former judge joined Podemos to run for the Presidency in 2022, now as a rival of both the PT and Bolsonaro. He ended up deciding to run for senator in Paraná for União Brasil and was elected.
