In this year’s municipal elections, scheduled for October 6, seven mayors of Amapá can run for re-election. The surveys were carried out by the National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM) based on data from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). In Brazil, more than 3,500 mayors are able to seek permanence.
In Amapá they may try to re-elect mayors Antonio Furlan (Macapá), Sebastian Bala Rocha (Santana), Breno Almeida (Oiapoque) – currently removed from office by decision of the Federal Court after being caught in a Federal Police operation), Antônio Carlos Leite de Mendonça Júnior (Pracuuba), Ary Duarte (Jari’s victory), Ronaldo Santos Barros (Calçoene) It is Bruno Mineiro (Little Turtle). The other nine mayors are serving their second term and are out of the election. Two of them, Elson Belo (Serra do Navio) and Divine Rock (Ferreira Gomes), face impeachment proceedings by the municipal councils.
The survey carried out by this report used the DivulgaCand portal, a system developed by the TSE. It is possible to access detailed information about candidates registered since 2004, such as: declared assets, political parties and positions for which they ran.
The next Municipal Elections are scheduled to take place on October 6, 2024, when Brazilians will choose new mayors, vice-mayors and councilors. The deadline for regularizing electoral registration, including issuing the title for those who are going to vote for the first time, is May 8th. Registration of candidacies for this year’s election runs until August 15th.
Councilors
In the election on October 6, voters in the 16 municipalities of the state of Amapá will elect 167 councilors, the majority in Macapá (23), Santana (15), Laranjal do Jari (13) and Mazagão, Oiapoque, Pedra Branca and Porto Grande ( 11 each). Other municipalities elect nine councilors each, such as Vitória do Jari, Tartarugalzinho, Amapá, Cutias, Pracuúba, Serra do Navio, Ferreira Gomes and Itaubal.
There is no news that any chamber has approved the increase in the number of seats, which depends on an initiative to change the organic law of each municipality. Judge João Lages, president of the Regional Electoral Court of Amapá (TRE-AP), informed that no authorization requests are processed there.
