The parliamentarian argues that the US could become one of the main consumer markets and contribute to the model that helps preserve the forest
Manaus (AM) – Senator Omar Aziz (PSD) defended the commercial rapprochement between the United States and Brazil with the objective of bringing direct benefits to the Manaus Free Trade Zone (ZFM). The suggestion came after the first official meeting, which took place this Friday (10), between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the North American Head of State Jor Biden, in Washington.
In recent years, the parliamentarian has repeatedly defended a foreign policy that opens new markets to absorb the production of the Industrial Pole of Manaus (PIM).
In Omar’s assessment, the joint effort between the presidents of two great powers to preserve the Amazon rainforest is positive, but he points out that the United States of America would contribute more to the environmental cause if they started buying from the Manaus Free Trade Zone.
“Efforts in this direction would consolidate our economic model, which has kept the forest standing for decades. We have a clean industry that preserves the forest and traditional peoples”, highlighted the senator.
For the senator from Amazonas, who has based his work on defending the Free Trade Zone from constant attacks, the model has a point in favor of the high quality of its products, which in this regard compete on equal terms with the industries of Mexico and China.
“We have logistical challenges to overcome, but we are only 5 hours by flight or 4 days by ship from Miami. In recent years we had a practically non-existent foreign policy and we need to resume this type of commercial partnership”, he added.
