Oiapoque is a municipality that brings together many beauties, it is home to a people whose demands are specific and listening to them is essential for the construction of public policies and decision-making. On Saturday, the 11th, governor Clécio Luís and secretaries of State participated in the 29th Assembly of Chiefs of the Indigenous Peoples of Oiapoque, which covers 67 villages.
The leaders listed the needs of communities that need attention, from the area of education to rural development.
From Aldeia Santa Isabel, of the Karipuna ethnic group, Cacique Jackson dos Santos works as a teacher and asked for improvements to the indigenous teaching units in the region.
“Our schools are precarious, they are not equipped to give the best education to students. We also want representation from the Department of Education here, it’s important. On this visit we met the secretaries, from whom we can charge. I hope that we can build more and show our work for the benefit of the people, ”he said.
Cacica Creuza dos Santos, from Aldeia Ahumã, spoke about the difficulties in the BR-156 region.
“We need improvements for transporting products from our indigenous fair. In addition, to work in health, we have trained indigenous people. We want opportunities. His speech is about improvements for the villages. This is how we must work, with unity. Indigenous peoples have determination and voice, and I am a leader who demands, who will demand from health, education, the indigenous movement”, stated.
This was the first agenda of Government teams outside the Metropolitan Region of Macapá, which also covers Santana and Mazagão. The visit takes place in the northernmost municipality of Brazil, on the border with French Guiana, which has unique characteristics in the political, developmental and environmental context.
“Whatever is done in culture, health, education, extensions, agriculture, assistance, everything must respect indigenous cultures. Our presence is to reaffirm the commitments made in the campaign, listen to them and move forward with what needs to be done. The government will stay close to the people, and it needs everyone’s help,” highlighted Governor Clécio Luís.
Approximately 10,000 indigenous people live in the region, living in 67 villages. They are administered by the Council of Chiefs of the Indigenous Peoples of Oiapoque (CCPIO), which mobilized the assembly.
The Assembly of the Indigenous Peoples of Oiapoque continues until this Tuesday, the 14th, and the demands will be forwarded so that both state, municipal and federal government bodies can make decisions in favor of the well-being of the indigenous peoples of the region .
