In the 1990s, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) published a recommendation for referees around the world. In cases of doubt in the offside call, the play should continue. The orientation was aimed at privileging the attack and the goals.

The 2023 Brazilian Championship starts this Saturday (15) with the intention that this concept be resumed, now with the help of VAR.
