Nunes surfs on Tarcísio’s mistake about autism and banking law – 02/14/2023 – Panel

The support base of Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) approved this Tuesday (14), at the São Paulo City Council, a bill that grants indefinite validity to medical reports that attest permanent disability for the purpose of access to programs and services public in the municipality.

Last week, Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) vetoed a bill with the same proposal, and in the justification, as revealed by the Panel, he wrote that autism in children can pass, which is disputed by specialists.

After numerous criticisms from activists, Tarcísio backed down, saying that he made a mistake and that he will prepare a project that authorizes such reports for people with disabilities and permanent conditions.

The project approved in the House now goes to Nunes’s sanction, from which it will come into force.

“The requirement of a medical report or a detailed medical report with a predetermined validity period seems to be onerous and, sometimes, an impediment to the access of people with permanent disabilities to programs, benefits and public services within the scope of the Municipality of São Paulo. Therefore, it is imperative that said documents have an indefinite validity period”, says the justification for the municipal project.
