Neymar undergoes surgery on his left knee this Thursday – 11/02/2023 – Sport

Surgery on Neymar’s left knee, 31, began this Thursday morning (2) and ended early this Thursday afternoon (2). He was operated on by Rodrigo Lasmar, doctor for the Brazilian team and Atlético-MG, at the Mater Dei Hospital in Belo Horizonte.

The procedure was carried out two weeks after the national team’s number 10 suffered tears in the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee, during a match against Uruguay in the World Cup qualifiers, on October 17.

The procedure lasted more than four hours, and Neymar is expected to leave the hospital by Saturday (4). The expectation is that Al Hilal’s number 10 will return to play by the end of the first half of 2024, according to Globo Sport.

Neymar arrived at the hospital on the night of Wednesday, November 1st. Around 7am today, he published in his stories a photo of a photo frame, in which he appears sleeping with his children Davi Lucca, 10 years old, and newborn Mavie, and wrote “Everything will be fine” .

He was injured in a ball dispute in the middle of the field, in the 44th minute of the first half of the match held in Montevideo. The player had an abnormal rotation in his knee when he tried to place his foot on the pitch and was carried away, indicating the severity of the injury.

Back in Brazil, the athlete decided to wait to have the procedure here. His club intended to perform the surgery in Paris, but the player wanted to be operated on by Lasmar.

The doctor was present at the athlete’s three surgeries — in 2018, to correct a fracture in his right foot, in February of this year, to correct a ligament injury, and this Thursday.

Neymar was hired in August by Al Hilal as the club’s main reinforcement, but has only played five matches for the team so far. The star scored his first goal with the number 10 shirt on October 3, in the 3-0 victory over Nassaji Mazandaran, in the Asian Champions League.

For the coordinator of the Biomechanics Laboratory at the School of Physical Education and Sport at USP (University of São Paulo), Júlio Cerca Serrão, the player’s recovery can happen in at least six months, but must happen over a longer period — from eight to 12 months.

Depending on the speed of recovery, it could be Neymar’s longest period of inactivity. To date, the injury that left him without playing football for the longest time was a sprain in his right ankle with ligament damage, which left him off the field between February and August of this year.
