The newspaper Folha de S.Paulo published a note this Sunday (16) stating that former president Jair Bolsonaro would have told allies that he wants to run for senator in 2026. The objective would be to lead a block of parliamentarians identified with him in the Senate.

A People’s Gazette spoke with sources linked to Bolsonaro who neither confirmed nor denied the claim. Without identifying themselves, they stated that their position on the 2026 election is still very speculative.

The possibility of joining a campaign for the Senate may have been mentioned by the former president more in terms of possibility than as an already defined and ongoing political articulation.

At the moment, the former president is avoiding entering into succession-related controversies due to a legal process in the Superior Electoral Court that could make him ineligible.

Bolsonaro’s support base assessment is that he has political capital and a mass of supporters that make it possible for him to run for any elected office.
