New municipal nursery inaugurated in the North zone

The mayor of Manaus, David Almeida, inaugurated, this Friday (16), the municipal nursery Dorothéa de Souza Braga, located in the Nova Cidade neighborhood, in the North zone. The teaching unit has the capacity to serve 204 students, aged 1 to 3 years, in kindergartens 1, 2 and 3. The work, which began in October 2022, is part of the package of Education actions promoted by the management David Almeida .

With the inauguration, the head of the municipal executive highlighted that, by the end of the year, the Municipal Education Secretariat (Semed) will have more than 10,000 vacancies offered in day care centers, a growth above 100% in relation to those existing in 2020.

“I want to emphasize that, when I took over as mayor, we had 5,003 daycare spaces in the city. With the units we are delivering, plus the vacancies that were made available in partnership with Sesi and the expansion of the network, we will have an offer, this year, of 10,716 vacancies in Manaus. That’s a 114% growth. By the end of the year, we will be more than doubling the number of students in kindergartens in the city”, emphasized Almeida.

The new teaching unit was named after the mother of the former governor and current senator of the Republic, Eduardo Braga. Present at the act, he thanked the tribute made by the current municipal management and stressed the importance of the partnership between the powers so that the capital of Amazonas continues to grow.

“I want to thank Mayor David Almeida for the tribute he pays to my dear mother, congratulate him for building this beautiful nursery in a region in the city of Manaus where, coincidentally, we built the housing houses, when we were in the state government and say that this union is exactly so that we can do more and better for the city and for the people of Manaus”, said the senator.

For the owner of Semed, Dulce Almeida, the new day care center will fill an existing lack of care in the northern region of the city, one of the most populous in the capital of Amazonas.

“We are starting a new era in Manaus. This is the first of seven new nurseries that will be delivered by our management in the coming weeks. They are completely different structures from the ones that existed and that will provide the opportunity to have the best Primary Education in the country. I am certain that these ‘little seeds’ that we are planting will blossom and bring many fruits to our city”, evaluated Dulce.

Structure

The school building follows the standard of the National Fund for Education Development (FNDE), “Type B”, developed by the federal government program “Pró Infância”. The teaching unit has five distinct blocks: administrative, services, multipurpose and two pedagogical. The blocks and the covered patio are interconnected by covered circulation.

In the external area, there is a playground, a space with children’s toys, and a water castle. The building also has a hall, reception, secretariat, internal circulation, boardroom, teachers’ room, storeroom, changing room (Creche I), toilet (Creche II), activities, rest (Creche III), multipurpose room, laundry, laundry, kitchen, food preparation area (bottles and soups) and washing of utensils.

The “Steel Frame” dry construction method was used to carry out the work, consisting of galvanized steel parts, which together make up the main structural element. The walls are formed by frames of light galvanized steel profiles. The outer face of the façade walls is closed with cement boards, and the inner part is made up of plasterboards for drywall and a core with a glass wool blanket.
In the wall reinforcement regions, for fixing suspended parts, structural OSB plates were used. The roof consists of a metal structure in light galvanized steel profiles, a roof in trapezoidal metal tiles and a thermal insulating product over the PVC lining.

The manager of the teaching unit, Daniela Medeiros, says that this inauguration is a great achievement for the North zone community, as well as being a space to support parents and welcome children.

“The Dorothéa municipal nursery will provide the families of this community with an opportunity to go in search of work and dignity. Here, children will be assisted with quality education and with lots of love, having adequate food. So, for the 204 families in this community, the City of Manaus offers assistance and enforces what is the right of the population, that is, quality education”, said the educator.

Among the families benefiting from the new educational space is housewife Evanilza Fragata, 37 years old, mother of student Maria Evellyn, 3 years old, who approved the physical facilities and pedagogical resources of the newly opened day care center.
“I really liked the work, because it will offer security to my daughter. Sometimes we want to work outside and we can’t. I am currently unemployed. Now, with my daughter studying, I think I will be able to do other activities”, she declared.

Biography

Patron of the nursery, Dorothéa de Souza Braga was born in the city of Manaus, State of Amazonas, on October 3, 1925. A female figure active in all areas of her life, she graduated as an Accounting Technician and studied at the School of Music, specializing in piano. She entered the university for seniors. Dorothéa de Souza Braga died on December 21, 2015, aged 90.
