New launches economist Marina Helena for SP city hall – 10/29/2023 – Panel

Economist Marina Helena will be Novo’s candidate for Mayor of São Paulo in 2024. Former director of Privatization at the Ministry of Economy under Paulo Guedes, she is the party’s national leader and ran for federal deputy last year.

In 2020, Marina was vice-president on the Novo ticket for city hall, which had Filipe Sabará as a candidate, but ended up being expelled from the party during that year’s campaign, after internal differences and suspicions about his CV.

Marina was one of the names that had been considered internally by Novo to run, alongside, for example, former federal deputy Vinicius Poit and current state deputy Léo Siqueira.

She told the Panel that she intends to represent a real right in the election, since she does not see Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) representing this camp. “Even with record revenue, he did not take measures to alleviate the tax burden in the city, or to encourage economic freedom. He also did not invest in security,” she says.

Security, in fact, will be her main campaign banner, which she says disagrees with it being a state-only issue. “Security is everyone’s issue. City hall can do many things, from increasing the number of municipal guards to installing cameras in the city. For me, freedom begins with security,” she says.

Another flag will be the implementation of PPPs (Public Private Partnerships) in areas such as health and education, in line with the Novo’s defense of a smaller State.

With the candidate defined, the party must now start talking to other parties for a possible alliance.
