The Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services of the Lula government announced, this Thursday (18), that it will change the layout of the National Identity Card (CIN). The new document will be printed without the field referring to gender and will only have the “name” which the person declares at the time of issuance, without distinction between social name and name on the civil registry.

The demand for this new model came from the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship (MDH), with the aim of the document “being more inclusive and representative”. The decree that will regulate the issuance of the CIN with the changes is expected to be published at the end of June. With the publication of the standard, all documents will already be issued with this new model.

The National Identity Card follows what is provided for in Law nº 14.534/2023, which determines the CPF as a unique and sufficient number for the identification of the citizen. The new model will be able to be issued in 12 Brazilian states.
