Manaus (AM) — The first day of combat at the 10th Amazonense Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship was marked by a true show by the new generation athletes. The event started this Saturday (22nd) and continues until this Sunday (23rd), at the Amadeu Teixeira Multisport Arena, a public space managed by the Government of Amazonas, through the Amazonas de Alto Rendimento Foundation (Faar). The event was supported by state representative Alessandra Campelo and councilor Allan Campelo.
According to the president of the Amazonas Federation of Professional Jiu-Jitsu (FAJJPRO), Fernando Barros, the event exceeded expectations. “On this first day of competition alone, we had the participation of 1,200 athletes, who represented gyms and social projects in the capital and interior of the state”, said the leader.
The opening day started at 9 am, with the Pre-Mirim fights, and extended into the night, with the Absolute Azul Juvenil duels. On Sunday, the schedule starts at 9 am, with the Black Adult and Masters matches, and ends at 5 pm, with the Purple Absolute matches.
Tarumã’s golden girl
The future of the sport is guaranteed thanks to the renovation of the mat. White belt Débora Cristina Mendes, aged 9, was champion in the up to 30 kg category in the 10/11 year old class. She had three fights and overcame all her opponents. The golden girl is an athlete from the Game Fight team, from Tarumã, West Zone of Manaus.
“Débora Cristina is a revelation, as she has only been training for a year and a half and has already achieved great results in the championships, reaping the good fruits of training”,
says Rafael Campos, a black belt who leads Tarumã’s Game Fight.
The performance in FAJJPRO’s Amazonense was accompanied by the family. The girl’s mother, Dona Cristiane, was pure pride in the performance of her promise on the mats.
“I am very happy to see my daughter participating in the championships, as this has always been my dream. She is my youngest daughter and I do everything so that she trains at the gym and is guaranteed enrollment in the championships”,
declared Dona Cristiane.
The fighter reconciles the sport with her studies. Débora Cristina is a student in the 4th year of Elementary School at the Manuel Ferraz de Campos Sales Municipal School, in Tarumã.
“I love studying and practicing jiu-jitsu, because it’s the sport I love, it’s my favorite sport and I really enjoy training with my colleagues. And about being a champion, it’s an incredible feeling to be fighting and winning”,
completed the gem of Game Fight.
