This Thursday (07), the Swiss company Nestlé announced the purchase of Copenhagen and the Brazil Cocoa, Brazilian chocolate brands. The two companies were controlled by the giant American group Advent International since 2020. Despite the announcement, Nestlé should finalize the entire acquisition process only in 2024.

During the process, the purchase will need to be approved by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade), says the note from Nestlé. The Swiss company said in the statement that the purchase includes the shareholding control of the companies and the entire network of chocolate and coffee shops. The amount of the transaction has not been officially disclosed, but it is estimated that the value is R$ 4.5 billion.

Kopenhagen and Brasil Cacau together represent more than a thousand stores in Brazil, in addition to having two thousand employees. Companies emphasize the importance of the business, stating that there will be opportunities for innovation and the enhancement of new categories, in addition to allowing initiatives in the field of sustainability.

“We understand that we have a great opportunity to accelerate higher value-added segments, further strengthening the chocolate category in Brazil,” he says. Marcelo MelchiorCEO of Nestlé Brasil, in a statement.

Garoto was also purchased by Nestlé

Three months ago, Nestlé announced that Cade had approved the purchase of the brand Boya process that had been dragging on in court since 2004. At the time the company was purchased by R$ 1 billion. The court vetoed the negotiation on the grounds that Nestlé and Garoto together would have 60% of the entire Brazilian chocolate market.

Currently, Nestlé and Garoto do not dominate the sector as before. One of the arguments used by Nestlé in its defense was the commitment not to acquire assets that represented at least 5% of the chocolate market in Brazil for the next five years.
