NE governors echo Lula with a focus on fighting hunger – 01/24/2023 – Panel

The governors of the Northeast began to chant the joint speech of prioritizing the fight against hunger, sharing the spotlight with Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in discussions on the subject. Cohesion was evident last week, after the Northeast Consortium meeting. In addition to the allied governors, the issue of poverty was voiced by Raquel Lyra (PSDB-PE), who declares herself independent from the government.
The Pernambuco native and the other eight members of the forum, who met in João Pessoa in preparation for the meeting that Lula will hold with all the country’s governors next Friday (27), left the place talking about the urgency of tackling the problem among Northeasterners.
According to participants, the atmosphere was one of search for cooperation, with Lyra joining the mostly Lulist group without any further ado. The toucan told the press, on the way out, that “food on the plate has no ideology” and that the main challenge in the region is to face poverty and hunger.
Jerônimo Rodrigues (PT-BA) stated that it is impossible to achieve a standard of happiness “as long as there is a hungry person in the Northeast”, and Elmano de Freitas (PT-CE) spoke of adding experiences and public policies so “that our people do not have this suffering “.
The consortium went through a good part of the period of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government with differences in relation to the conduct of the Covid-19 pandemic and, under Lula, intends to resume an agenda focused on social issues.
The evaluation is that the group starts to align itself with the new president in the priority treatment of the problem of hunger, without the intention of disputing with the PT the protagonism in the agenda, but seeking solutions for the region, which concentrates high levels of poverty.
At the meeting on Friday (20), the members of the consortium defined the common demands that they will take to the president and defined specific projects for which they will seek partnerships with the federal government.
