Navy personnel began providing care and support to victims of the rains that hit the north coast of São Paulo in recent days and left dozens dead and thousands homeless. The Brazilian Navy ship Atlântico docked on Thursday (23) in São Sebastião, one of the municipalities most affected by the storms. Military personnel from the areas of health, engineering, logistics, infantry and special operations will work in the area.

According to information from the Navy, the use of the large ship made it possible for the group to also take equipment, machinery and materials that will be directly used in humanitarian support to the community, including a complete structure of a field hospital with 300 beds. , which started its services this Friday (24).

Also according to the Navy, 30 hospital beds have already arrived in the region ready on board the ship Atlântico, assembled during its crossing from Rio de Janeiro to the port of São Sebastião (SP), and are awaiting an operating forecast. The structure will be open to the public daily from 8am to 6pm. The hospital, which is the responsibility of the Navy Expeditionary Medical Unit (UMEM), has a structure with a doctor’s office for general practice, pediatrics, a SEP bed (Patient Stabilization Service) and six ward beds.
