MPRJ analyzes Dallagnol’s crime news against Minister of Tourism

The Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) opened a preliminary procedure to analyze whether or not it will initiate an investigation against the Minister of Tourism, Daniela Carneiro (União Brasil-RJ), on suspicion of irregularities in the use of public resources from the Special Fund Campaign Financing Fund (FEFC). The investigation request was filed by federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR), former coordinator of Lava Jato in Curitiba, on Friday (3).

In a note, the MPRJ informed that “there is no criminal procedure instituted on the criminal news brought by federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol in relation to Daniela Carneiro”. According to the agency, “the facts are under preliminary analysis by the 2nd Prosecutor of Justice for Territorial Criminal Investigation of the Duque de Caxias Nucleus, which received the letter by distribution, […] charged by the Duque de Caxias Criminal Investigation Nucleus”.

To present the crime news, the parliamentarian was based on news published by the press that the minister and federal deputy would have spent R$ 1.09 million from the Special Fund for Campaign Financing (FEFC) in two printers that do not work at the addresses informed to the Board of Trade and the Federal Revenue Service. Daniela Carneiro, known by her urn name Daniela do Waguinho, was re-elected as a federal deputy in 2022, but was chosen by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to head the Ministry of Tourism.

“The initiation of proceedings by the Rio Public Ministry is an important step towards clarifying the facts. It is a matter of justice, public ethics and respect for Brazilian society”, said the congressman in a note.

Ministry of Tourism says campaign materials have been delivered

In a note, the Ministry of Tourism informed that all the campaign materials demanded by Daniela Carneiro were delivered by the printing companies and that discrepancies in the registration of companies are not the minister’s responsibility. The text also criticizes Dallagnol’s performance.

Dallagnol cites retaliation for supervisory work

With regard to the possible impeachment request, Dallagnol considered that it is a retaliation for the inspection work carried out by the parliamentarian, who took office on February 1st.

“In less than two days of intense inspection work as a federal deputy, the first request for impeachment against me has already been announced, just for having requested the investigation of complaints involving a Minister of State. It is the total inversion of values: they want to remove those who seek to investigate corruption and not those who potentially committed it. Political parties are not consistent and should not be consistent with illicit acts, and the pursuit of public ethics strengthens democracy. If the facts are proven in court, we will ask for the minister’s removal, through the courts if necessary,” said the federal deputy in a note.
