The Movimento Advogados de Direita Brasil published on Wednesday (25) an open letter asking senators not to re-elect the current president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), in the elections scheduled for next Wednesday (1st). The manifesto, signed by 5,341 lawyers, also has a petition on the internet that has already gathered the signatures of 53,000 supporters against the reappointment of the senator from Minas Gerais to the post.

In the letter, the group highlights the serious problems faced by the country and claims that there was an omission on the part of Pacheco as president of the Senate. “Recent history tells us that the current President of the Brazilian Congress, Hon. Sen. Rodrigo Pacheco, in the exercise of his mandate as representative of the States of Brazil in the House of the People, repeatedly remained silent and inert in his attributions, leaving to act in favor of satisfying the desires of a massive part of the population, deliberately allowing both the intervention of the Judiciary in the sphere of the Executive Power and in the sphere of the Legislative Power itself”, says the movement. “The silence and omission of the current president necessitates urgent response from the nation”, points out the manifesto.

“As legitimate representatives of the Brazilian people, handpicked by those represented through the federated States, we come through this letter to implore you to save this nation”, says an excerpt from the undersigned shared at the address “The noble parliamentarians have in their hands the power to change the course and history of this country and, above all, the very destiny of this Legislative House”.

According to the signatories of the letter, “in the exercise of his mandate, Senator Pacheco remained silent on important guidelines that would not have allowed the country to reach the state of social upheaval that it is in today, bringing discredit to this House and allowing rights enshrined by the Federal Constitution were vilified”, says the document.
