Three out of four Brazilian professionals believe that AI will replace their jobs

Concerns about the extent of artificial intelligence (AI) have become very present, even reaching the job market. Currently, three out of four Brazilian professionals believe that AI will replace their jobs. The information is from the CNN website.

The data comes from a survey carried out by Page Interim, with 5,354 professionals from Latin America, which reveals that 76.6% of respondents in Brazil believe that this technology will partially affect jobs in the area in which they work.

Among the reasons given by workers are unemployment, privacy and data security. Currently, more and more companies are investing in AI in some strategic sectors, and this can impact the supply of vacancies.

According to the IMF, almost 40% of jobs worldwide could be affected by the advancement of AI and increase inequality. This share, according to the entity, is greater in developed countries, where the changes will be more noticeable, compared to emerging ones — such as Brazil.

Furthermore, the lack of human judgment and intuition are other factors that worry professionals around the world, as seen in Panama, Mexico and Peru, which presented results similar to those in Brazil.

The data shows that even so, amid several potential risks, the percentage of people who still believe that the technology has the potential to be beneficial, serving as a “game changer”, is 32.1%.

Victoria Quintella, director of Page Interim, says that “The use of artificial intelligence is not only revolutionizing the way people deal with technology, but also opening up new opportunities in the job market. New positions should emerge and others are already feeling the real impacts that AI brings right away”.

She states that some professions may be more demanding when the implementation of AI is more effective, as well as an improvement in productivity and new opportunities, but that people already perceive some risks that “directly affect jobs”.

However, a study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) calculated that people are not likely to lose jobs to robots so quickly.

According to the research, some jobs that were considered vulnerable to AI would not be economically attractive if they were automated by technology.

Right now, only about 23% of wages paid to humans for jobs that could be performed by AI tools would be economical for employers to replace with machines.

According to Page Interim research, only 3% think it is exaggerated and will not have a significant impact and 3.4% still don’t know.
