More than 1,800 students participate in the Sports and Arts Caravan – News of Brazil

From the 8th to the 10th of August, the Caravana do Sport and Caravana das Artes will take place for students from the municipal education network, with the inclusion of neuroatypical children. The event is promoted by the Municipality of Macapá, through the Municipal Secretary of Education (Semed).
In all, 16 elementary schools in Macapá will be participating in the project with the aim of valuing the inclusion of playful and integrative activities in the school context.
The project coordinator in Macapá, Luziwania Oliveira, explains that the event is taking place for the first time in a capital of the North region and that it is very rewarding to see the fun of the 1,800 children who participate in the event.
“The Caravan comes from São Paulo and will provide fun and recreational activities for our children. It is a great satisfaction for them, a joy and happiness in their eyes. Sports and art are geared towards education, so much so that the project started within the special education division of Macapá”, he said.
The program takes place in two shifts, from 8:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00. The program features collective and adventure sports: basketball, soccer, Slackline, volleyball, fights, tennis, athletics and unconventional games. In addition, artistic sound and movement workshops will be held with the aim of providing artistic experiences with bodily, spatial and rhythmic-sound experiences.
10-year-old Letícia Souza, 10-year-old Letícia Souza, 5th grade student at the Amapá Municipal Elementary School, enjoyed participating in the event with her friends. “I am finding it really cool. I hope to participate again and that other schools will do the same”, he said.
In addition to the students, 220 professionals will be participating in workshops focused on playful and integrative activities, as well as training in educational sports for teachers and parents of neuroatypical children.
Parents and professionals who wish to participate in the training in educational sports can go to the venue of the event, at Sede Campestre da Domestilar, located on Rodovia JP, and participate for free.
The Caravana do Sport and Caravana das Artes is an itinerant project by Unicef, Disney and ESPN, carried out in Brazil by the Mpumalanga Institute and the Sport & Education Institute, with the support of local governments. In Macapá, the project has the cooperation of the city hall, and is organized by the Municipal Department of Education (Semed), with support from the Departments of Health (Semsa) and the Civil Office (Secgabi), Human Rights (Smdh), Management ( Secg) and the Urban Janitor (Semzur).
