More than 180 athletes travel to compete in the Youth Games in São Paulo – News of Brazil

The Government of Amapá started, this Thursday (31) the boarding of 186 athletes from 15 to 17 years old who are going to Ribeirão Preto, in São Paulo, to participate, starting on Saturday (02), in the Youth Games.
The event runs until September 17 and is held by the Brazilian Olympic Committee in search of new talents in national sport to represent the country in the 2024 Olympics, which will be held in Paris, France.
The State Government invested R$ 76 thousand in tickets, uniforms and sports material for the teams, which will compete in 12 sports. 46 professionals are also part of the group, such as sports coaches and physiotherapists. The action is coordinated by the Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure (Sedel).
The Amapá delegation is made up of elementary and high school students, 119 from state schools, 27 from private schools and three from the Federal Institute of Science, Education and Technology of Amapá (Ifap). Each of them was highlighted in the sport that operates in their educational institution.
“The Government of Amapá is committed to always doing the best for the appreciation of sport in Amapá”pointed out the Sedel manager, Rudney Cunha.
Expectations
Athlete José Luís Leitão Júnior will compete in two athletics modalities: 100m event and long jump. “It is a dream. I am anxious and very confident in bringing this medal to Amapá. We are committed to winning and bringing the best possible results.”said the athlete.
The boy’s father, José Luís Leitão, accompanied the shipment and is confident in the teenager’s success. “Our son is a well-disciplined athlete and we are rooting for the entire team from the Amapa delegation to do well and bring us a lot of victories”said the boy’s father.
