On the 1st and 2nd of April, Macapá will host the Brazilian Judo Championship Region I. In addition to the athletes from Amapa, more than 360 competitors from the states of Amazonas, Maranhão, Pará, Piauí and Roraima will be competing.
“It will be a special moment so that we can have the best possible result. Due to the event being held here in Amapá, we have a good number of athletes to run after this competition title”said the president of the Amapaense Judo Federation (FAJ), Adriano Lins.
This is the second time that Macapá hosts the championship, the first was in 2013. This year, the fights will take place at the Poliesportivo Gym of the Federal Institute of Amapá (Ifap), which underwent renovations on the court, through a Term of Cooperation between City Hall and the educational institution.
The development term signed by the municipality and the Amapaense Judo Federation (FAJ) offers structure for the competition during the two days.
“It is the first time that City Hall invests heavily in an event like this. We are investing almost R$400,000 in structuring so that five fight areas can be built in the gym and another R$150,000 for the structure of the event”said the municipal coordinator of Sports and Leisure, Bruno Church.
Altogether there are 539 athletes in the championship (between men and women) and of these, 179 are from Amapá. They will compete in the U-13, U-15, U-18, U-21 and senior categories. The competition will qualify for the Brazilian Championship, the national final phase.
In addition to his fights, the former two-time world champion judoka, John Derly, will be present at the event. “He comes to brighten the event and encourage the athletes”completed the Hadrian.
