The Mais Médicos Program obtained 34,070 enrollments, of which 19,652 (58%) were from Brazilians with professional registration in the country. The number of subscribers was the highest ever achieved since the creation of the initiative, in 2013, during the government of President Dilma Rousseff.

The expectation is that from the 16th of June onwards, the confirmation of the vacancies and the places chosen by the candidates will be announced, with the beginning of the work of the doctors scheduled for the end of the month. The deadline for registration ended this Wednesday (31).

Brazilian doctors registered in Brazil will have priority in filling vacancies. Positions not occupied by doctors registered in the country will be filled by Brazilians trained abroad or foreigners, who will continue to work with Ministry of Health registration.

“We are sure that all vacancies will be filled. In indigenous health we had 152 vacancies in the notices with 4,900 registered and 100% of them were filled. We have no doubt that, with the reformulations and benefits offered in the new notice that were not offered in the announcement presented at the beginning of the year, the security of filling vacancies is much greater than in other editions”, said Nesio Fernandes, national secretary of Primary Health Care.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) announced in March the resumption of the Mais Médicos program. At this first moment, professionals will work in the 5,790 open positions, 1,000 of which in the Legal Amazon.

Professionals will receive incentives to work in places that are difficult to access, with percentages that vary according to vulnerability, difficulty in finding doctors and the percentage of the population that depends solely on the SUS. Whoever is chosen will also be able to take a specialization course and a master’s degree in the area of family health.

The mixed commission of the National Congress approved this Wednesday the report of the MP (provisional measure) that resumed the More Doctors program and reduced from 8 to 4 years the time for foreigners to work in the country without the revalidation of the diploma.

The proposal sent by the Lula government (PT) to Congress authorized the participating physician to take the Revalida (exam for revalidation of diplomas) only after eight years. The first version of Mais Médicos provided for six years (three years extendable for another three).

To circumvent the opposition’s criticism, the text’s rapporteur, senator Zenaide Maia (PSD-RN), suggested a period of four years. In this way, the professional who wants to renew the employment contract must revalidate the diploma at the end of this period.
