Complaint

Do Val denied that Moraes had asked him to formalize the report on the meeting with Bolsonaro and Silveira

Brasilia DF) – Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), confirmed this Friday that he had had a conversation with Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) in which the parliamentarian told him that he had participated in a meeting with former president Jair Bolsonaro where he was proposed to record the magistrate.

But Moraes said that the parliamentarian refused to formalize in a statement the complaint that he would have received a proposal during the meeting to participate in a possible coup plot.

“I asked the senator if he would reaffirm that and put it on paper, that I would immediately take his statement. The senator told me that this was an intelligence issue and that unfortunately he could not confirm it. So I got up, said goodbye to the senator, thanked him for being there, because what is not official, for me, does not exist”,

said the minister during participation by videoconference in a Lide Group business conference held in Lisbon.

“The brilliant idea they had was to put a wiretap on the senator so that the senator, who is not intimate with me –I talked to this senator exactly three times in my life–, could record me and, from that recording –and that’s how far reached the senator –, could request my withdrawal from the presidency of the investigations”, he added.

Do Val denied that Moraes asked him to formalize the report on the meeting with Bolsonaro and Silveira. He also said that he will ask the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to remove the Supreme Minister from the rapporteurship of the inquiry into anti-democratic acts, which investigates Bolsonaro and allies.

“The recent statements by Minister Alexandre de Moraes are not true when he says that he advised me so that the information about the meeting with Daniel Silveira and former president Jair Bolsonaro was formalized”, said the senator, reading a note, which said he will share on your social networks.

“At no time did I receive instructions from the minister to carry out the aforementioned formalization. Therefore, I was not guided to formalize anything at all, neither by responses to messages I sent, nor personally during the meeting we had”,

added.

Do Val also said that he will present a “request for the PGR to remove Minister Alexandre de Moraes from the rapporteurship regarding anti-democratic acts”.

Veja magazine published an article claiming to have had access to messages that would prove a meeting in December between Do Val with Bolsonaro and with the then federal deputy Daniel Silveira at the Palácio da Alvorada, in which Bolsonaro would have proposed to Do Val, according to the senator himself, that he recorded a conversation with Moraes without the minister’s knowledge, in an attempt to get the magistrate to say something compromising that could lead to an attempt to arrest him and annul the October presidential election.

President of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Moraes led the October electoral process.

According to the magazine, Do Val reported the episode to Moraes and, later, refused the proposal to record the minister.

Also on Thursday, Do Val confirmed that he had met with Bolsonaro and Silveira, but said that the proposal to record Moraes came from the then federal deputy, and that Bolsonaro only listened to it in silence. Veja, however, released what it claims was audio of an interview with Do Val in which he reports that he heard the details of the plot directly from the ex-president’s mouth.

The senator also said that he had met with Moraes before the meeting with Bolsonaro and Silveira to say that he had been called to talk to both of them and that the minister had encouraged him to go to the meeting to gather information.

Asked about this supposed first meeting with Do Val, Moraes denied that it took place.

“The conversation I had with him was the one I previously transcribed,” said Moraes.

In a statement he gave to the PF on Thursday by order of Moraes, Do Val repeated the plot according to which Silveira would use the material from the recording of Moraes’ speech to try to annul the election, keep Bolsonaro in office and seek Moraes’ arrest.

The senator said that, at no time, did the former president deny the plan or show opposition to the plan, remaining silent, according to the statement.
