Moraes releases Bárbara’s social networks, from the Te Atualizei channel

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court, determined this Friday (2) the reactivation of the profiles of journalist and digital influencer Bárbara Destefani, from the Te Atualizei channel.

Barbara’s social networks – Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Youtube – had been suspended in January of this year. She says she was not notified and did not even know the reasons for the accounts being removed from the air.

The decision refers to a request from Barbara’s defense that asked for the accounts to be reactivated and pointed out that she “never acted in a group or in an articulated network of people, spread false news or misinformation, nor attacked institutions”. According to the defense, with the closing of the elections, “there is no longer any reason to maintain the blockade”.

At a hearing on censorship in the Chamber of Deputies, Bárbara reported the fear of exposing opinions in Brazil and cited a series of reports that have been censored in recent years. “We need to feel safe, and I’m pretty unsure of whether to voice any opinion,” she said.

In the decision, Moraes reinforces that “the applicant, it appears that there was a cessation of dissemination of content coated with illegality and tending to transgress the integrity of the electoral process and to encourage the performance of anti-democratic acts, being feasible the reactivation of their profiles, maintaining, however, the removal of irregular posts conveyed by it”.

Finally, the minister ordered a precautionary measure so that the influencer does not publish, promote or share “fraudulent news subject to this decision”. It also imposed a daily fine of R$10,000 (ten thousand reais), in case of non-compliance with the measure.
