Moraes releases another 80 prisoners for coup acts of 8/1 – 03/10/2023 – Power

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Federal Supreme Court), this Friday (10) granted provisional release to over 80 people denounced after the coup attacks on the headquarters of the three Powers on January 8.

All those released are men. Last Wednesday (8), on International Women’s Day, the minister had released 149 prisoners for coup acts, organized by supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Like the others, they will have to wear electronic anklets and must stay at home at night and on weekends.

They must also appear in court every Monday, cannot leave the country and must hand over their passports.

In addition, they will not be able to use social networks or communicate with other suspects of participation in anti-democratic acts.

They were denounced by the PGR (Attorney General’s Office) for inciting crime and criminal association.

Of the more than 1,400 people who were arrested after the attacks, 522 are still being held, according to the STF. There are 440 men and 82 women.

Until this Friday, the PGR had denounced 919 people for public incitement to crime and criminal association. Some of them, 219, are also accused of qualified damage, violent abolition of the rule of law and coup d’état.

The STF has said that, due to the seriousness of the conduct that violates the democratic rule of law of the acts, the PGR did not offer the agreement of non-criminal prosecution to the prisoners — when the Public Ministry offers the investigated the possibility to confess the crime and get rid of of a conviction.

The agency stated that “the incitement and formation of the criminal association had the objective of violently taking over the democratic rule of law, through the Armed Forces, which is incompatible with the decriminalizing measure”.
