The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes ordered the opening of investigations against three parliamentarians due to the acts of vandalism on January 8th. The minister complied with a request from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). The body requested the investigation of the conduct of elected federal deputies André Fernandes (PL-CE), Sílvia Waiãpi (PL-AP) and Clarissa Tércio (PP-PE) for alleged incitement to violent protests through posts on social networks.

Moraes considered that the facts narrated by the PGR about the conduct of deputies, “in theory”, could configure crimes such as terrorism, criminal association, violent abolition of the Democratic State of Law, coup d’état, threat, persecution and incitement to crime. The Court informed that inquiries have an initial period of 60 days. During this period, the Federal Police must “conclude the inquiries and carry out the necessary steps to clarify the facts”.
