Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), granted provisional release to the former commander of the Military Police of the Federal District Fábio Augusto Vieira, arrested after the attacks by coup vandals on the headquarters of the Three Powers.
According to the minister’s decision, signed this Friday (3), the former commander cannot leave the Federal District without prior communication to the Supreme Court, under penalty of being punished with preventive detention (without a fixed period).
“The report prepared by the federal intervenor in the Public Security area of the Federal District, Ricardo Capelli, in principle, indicates that Fábio Augusto Vieira, although he held, at the time, the position of general commander of the Military Police of the Federal District, would not have been directly responsible for the failure of the security actions that resulted in the criminal acts being investigated”, said the minister in his decision.
This document, says Moraes, also points out that “the investigated person was present in the operation, was injured in the direct fight against the demonstrators and did not have his requests for reinforcements met”.
On the last 30th, the Sheet revealed that unreleased footage from the Congressional security camera circuit showed Vieira acting to contain the coup demonstrators.
Vieira was arrested by decision of the STF on January 10 for alleged omission in relation to the episode.
The former head of the PM was responsible for commanding the corporation on the day that supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) attacked the buildings of Congress, the Planalto Palace and the STF.
