Moraes grants provisional freedom to Valdemar Costa Neto – 02/10/2024 – Power

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, granted this Saturday (10) provisional freedom to the national president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, arrested during an operation launched by the Federal Police last Thursday (8).
Valdemar had been arrested for illegal possession of a firearm. The weapon was located by the PF during the search and seizure authorized by Moraes, when a gold nugget was also found.
The PF claims that Valdemar participated in the alleged plot to carry out a coup d’état in the country and keep Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in power.
The searches took place at his personal address and also at the PL headquarters. There was no arrest warrant against him — the politician was detained in the act due to his weapon.
The PL president had already spent time in jail previously. He was arrested in 2013 due to a sentence of seven years and two months in the Mensalão case. In 2016, the STF pardoned his sentence after serving a quarter of the detention period.
