Moraes determines blocking of Monark’s social networks

The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes determined, this Wednesday (14), the blocking of the social networks of the digital influencer Bruno Monteiro Aiub, known as Monark. The decision prohibits Monark from “publishing and sharing misinformation”, under penalty of a fine of R$ 10,000 in case of non-compliance.

“I also determine the imposition of a precautionary measure against Bruno Monteiro Aiub, consisting in refraining from publishing, promoting, replicating and sharing fraudulent news (fake news) subject to this decision, under penalty of a daily fine of R$ 10,000, 00 (ten thousand reais) in case of non-compliance”, wrote Moraes.

In recent posts, he was accused by the minister of spreading “fraudulent news” about the elections. Social networks Discord, Instagram, Rumble and Twitter will have two hours to take down users’ access to Monark’s profiles. Companies must still send the influencer’s registration data to the Supreme Court and preserve the content of posts, informed the Brazil Agency. If platforms fail to comply with the order, they must pay a daily fine of R$ 100,000.

Moraes’ decision was motivated by a report produced by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) disinformation advisory. In the petition sent to the Supreme Court, the Electoral Court reported on the publication of a video of Monark on the social network Rumble, on June 5.

In the recording, the influencer comments on the role of the STF and TSE and the electoral process. “Because he [Supremo] is willing to guarantee non-transparency in the elections? Do we see the TSE censoring people, Alexandre de Moraes arresting people, a lot of things happening and, at the same time, they preventing the polls from being transparent? You get suspicious. What nonsense is happening at the polls there? What’s the interest? Manipulate the polls? Manipulate the elections?”, said the influencer.

“Thus, it becomes necessary, appropriate and urgent to interrupt the possible spread of speeches with hateful content, subversion of order and encouragement to break institutional and democratic normality by blocking accounts on social networks, with the aim of interrupting the injury or threat right”, said the minister in the decision.

Monark was wanted by People’s Gazette to comment on Alexandre de Moraes’ decision, but until the publication of this article he has not yet returned. The space remains open.
