Ministry transfers more than R$ 15 million to early childhood education

3,194 new vacancies will be created in kindergartens and preschools
An ordinance of the Ministry of Education, published this Monday (14) in the Official Diary of the Union, authorizes the transfer of R$15,739,988.28 to 46 municipalities to create new places in early childhood education in the public school system. Resources come from the Fund for the Maintenance and Development of Basic Education and the Valuation of Education Professionals (Fundeb).
The purpose of transferring these resources is exclusively the maintenance and development of new vacancies for the expansion of the public early childhood education network. Studies indicate that, in the poorest families, only one in four children up to 3 years of age attend day care centers in the country.
With the pledged amounts, 3,194 places will be created in day care centers and preschools, 1,469 of which will be part-time and 438 full-time, in addition to 1,069 part-time and 218 full-time preschool places.
Resources will be transferred to municipalities in the states of Acre, Amazonas, Ceará, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Pará, Paraíba, Piauí, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo. These are cities that registered new vacancies in the Integrated Monitoring, Execution and Control System (Sismec).
The Education departments will receive the amounts automatically, in a single installment, directly into the registered current account. After the movement of resources, municipalities will have to report to the Fundeb Council, until June 30, 2024, through the Accountability Management System (SiGPC).
The last School Census 2022 pointed to the existence of 74,400 daycare centers across the country. Of the enrollments carried out in this educational stage, 66.4% are in the public network and 33.6% in private day care centers, of which more than half have an agreement with the public early childhood education network.
