The minimum salary for teachers will be readjusted by 15%, confirmed by the Ministry of Education (MEC), the value will change from R$ 3,845.63 to R$ 4,420.55. The information is from G1.
The announcement of the increase had already been anticipated last Monday night (16) by the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, but the ordinance making the measure official was published in today’s edition (17) of the “Official Gazette”.
The Teachers Salary Floor Law, enacted in 2008, establishes that the readjustment must be made annually, in the month of January. The floor is set by the federal government, but basic education salaries are paid by city halls and state governments.
Last week, the minister said that the federal government was studying readjusting the values passed on to states and municipalities for the purchase of school lunches, before the start of the school year.
In 2022, the readjustment for teachers had been 33.24%, when it went from R$ 2,886 to R$ 3,845.63.
In September last year, the then President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), vetoed the readjustment for lunches at day care centers and public schools. The values have not been corrected for five years.
The amount that the Union transfers to states and municipalities for school lunches varies. It is BRL 0.36 per day for each elementary and high school student; R$0.53 per day for preschool students; and R$ 1.07 for students in day care centers or full-time education.
The CNTE (National Confederation of Workers in Education) published at the end of last week a note demanding the readjustment in the floor.
“As we are already in the second half of January, we need to gain agility in terms of announcement to break the resistance of these bad payers and strengthen the fight of our unions”, said the president of the CNTE, Heleno Araújo.
According to representatives of the category, the amount should be paid from the publication of the December ordinance – but, traditionally, states and municipalities only follow the readjustment after an announcement by the MEC.
