Minister Marina Silva, of the Environment and Climate Change, will declare a state of environmental emergency in several regions of the country, starting on the 14th, due to the risk of forest fires.
In the ordinance signed on March 3 and published earlier this week in the Official Gazette (see full text), Marina establishes the critical situation in stages as of April, lasting until February 2024.
The red alert for the risk of forest fires comes days after the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe) points out a record deforestation for the month of February since the beginning of the historical series, in 2016. According to data from the Deter system, there were 290.75 km² deforested, against the 198.67 km² recorded as the highest previous mark, last year (see in full).
