Ministries with Lula’s personal recommendation have 3 men for every woman – 10/27/2023 – Power

Despite having lamented this Friday (27) the lack of women in the government and holding political parties responsible for a mostly male first echelon, Lula (PT) appointed three men for every woman in his personal quota of ministers —those without affiliation partisan.
Of the 38 ministries, 9 of them are occupied without party nomination. Only 3 of them, however, were given to women by the President of the Republic. They are Nísia Trindade (Health), Margareth Menezes (Culture) and Anielle Franco (Racial Equality).
During a breakfast with journalists at Palácio do Planalto this Friday, Lula stated that he could not do anything about the lack of female ministers and presidents in office. The statement came one day after dismissing the president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Rita Serrano.
“I regret it, because what I want to strengthen in the government is to convey the idea that women came to politics to stay,” he said. “When a political party has to nominate a person and there is no woman, I can’t do anything”, concluded the president.
Previously, Lula had already fired the then ministers of Tourism, Daniela Carneiro, and Sports, Ana Moser.
At the beginning of the year, the president’s team selected for the Esplanada had 11 ministers in 37 portfolios. Now, there are 9 of them on the Esplanada, with 38 ministries.
