The Minister of Ports and Airports, Márcio França, informed that the federal government intends to present a program to sell airline tickets at R$200 to retirees, students and civil servants. The announcement was made in an interview with the newspaper Brazilian mail.

According to the minister, the program will be aimed at people with a salary of up to R$6,800 and the project’s goal is to occupy vacant seats on planes, which may allow the purchase of tickets for R$200. of the program would be entitled to buy two trips per year – two round trips, each ticket for R$ 200.

“What we are looking for is to buy the idleness of the spaces. Brazilian companies reach around 30 million passengers, each operating with 78% to 80% of vacancies occupied. Another 20% come out empty. I want these vacancies for people who don’t fly”, said Márcio França.

França also reinforced that the proposal does not involve subsidizing tickets, but making an agreement with airlines for the sale of idle space on aircraft, with government intermediation. The minister says he finds it difficult for an airline not to accept. The program can generate the sale of up to 15 million tickets a year for R$ 200 each, according to calculations by the folder.

The minister stated that the plan is in place, but still needs to be evaluated by the government. According to him, President Lula asked for more passengers and airports in the country, with more flights by airliners.
