Minister Waldez Góes goes to Congress and meets almost 50 parliamentarians and mayors – News of Brazil

On Wednesday (12), minister Waldez Góes spent the day at the National Congress, where he received deputies, senators and mayors to present actions and projects of the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR) and meet demands from states and municipalities. There were almost 50 calls, which started early in the morning and ended overnight.
“We are following President Lula’s orientation to maintain a direct relationship with parliamentarians, mayors, governors, with civil society, with entrepreneurs, so that the actions of this government take place at the base, which is where the people are”, highlighted Waldez Góes . “So, today I took the whole day to be here at the National Congress, assisting the deputies, the senators, talking, presenting our portfolio of projects, answering questions. It is necessary to join efforts, including among the different ones, to produce consensus so that the Federal Government budget, together with the work of parliamentarians, can mean more deliveries for society, especially for those who need it most”, completed.
One of the parliamentarians assisted was federal deputy Márcio Honaiser (PDT/MA). Among the topics discussed at the meeting was the situation of municipalities in Maranhão that are in an emergency situation due to heavy rains. Another subject discussed was federal support for the state’s production chains, through the National Integration Routes program. “It was a very productive meeting. The minister, as he has always been doing, made himself available to help the municipalities of the state in whatever way possible”, said the deputy.
Minister Waldez Góes highlighted that assistance to municipalities affected by disasters is a priority in the current administration. “President Lula determined that we work together with the states and municipalities to give maximum speed to this process. The MIDR, through the National Civil Defense, has been acting in the affected cities since the first moment, providing guidance and assisting in requests for recognition of an emergency situation and also for the transfer of resources”, pointed.
Another agenda was with Senator Efraim Filho (União/PB) and the mayor of the city of Santa Helena (CE), João Cléber. The municipal manager presented the minister with a project to integrate the waters of the North Axis of the transposition of the São Francisco River, through the Apodi branch, with the public dam at Sítio Cajueiro. “This is a very important action so that we can develop the people of our land, who are in great need of water, because water is life, it is survival, it is development”, said the mayor.
Waldez Góes pointed out that guaranteeing water security for the Brazilian semi-arid region is another priority of the Lula government. “I have already forwarded the request for studies to be carried out on this integration in Santa Helena”, he informed. “We will spare no effort so that quality water reaches people’s homes for consumption, for production, to improve life”, he added.
Another parliamentarian assisted was federal deputy Nelsinho Padovani (União Brasil/PR). Among the topics addressed at the meeting were the situation in the Paraná municipality of Bandeirantes, which is in an emergency situation due to floods, and the construction of a road that connects the municipality of Castro to the district of Socavão.
“It is of the utmost importance for the minister to come to the Chamber of Deputies, in a gesture of work, humility and relationship with parliament. I am very happy to have a minister attentive to the needs of the population”, said deputy Padovani.
Federal Deputy Josenildo Abrantes (PDT/AP) and Amapá State Secretary for Fisheries, José Cordeiro, were also with Minister Waldez Góes. At the meeting, Cordeiro presented a project aimed at the sustainable development of fishing and aquaculture in Amapa. “Amapá’s productive sector is advancing. I am sure that the project will help our state a lot. We are in full expansion of fish farming and we await further evolution”, said the secretary.
Waldez Góes thanked the visit and highlighted the importance of the project. “Working with the small producer, with the informal farmer, the fishermen and the community in general is a priority of president Lula”, he pointed out. “The project matches what the Ministry has to offer, such as the National Integration Routes”, he added.
Federal deputy Aluísio Mendes (Republicanos/MA) also highlighted the importance of the Federal Government’s presence in the National Congress. “I leave the meeting with Minister Waldez Góes very satisfied, first for the service I received and, second, for the prompt handling of the demands of the Maranhão municipalities that I came to request. This shows MIDR’s commitment to the Brazilian people, to the state of Maranhão and to all of Brazil”, he pointed out.
The last meeting of the day was with nine deputies from the bench of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The theme of the meeting was the Federal Government’s support for municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul that face the drought, in addition to solutions that minimize the problem, such as actions to preserve springs and water management.
