Without an agreement signed between the Movement of Landless Rural Workers (MST) and the company Suzano, producer of paper and cellulose, the Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture, Paulo Teixeira, announced this Wednesday (8), that they must reconvene at a negotiating table to resume dialogue. The minister tries to recover an agreement made in 2015, between MST and Suzano, to reach a consensus on the allocation of the company’s land in southern Bahia. At the time, the court ordered Suzano to indicate land for around 450 MST families.

The first meeting of the negotiating table is scheduled for March 16. According to Minister Paulo Teixeira, Suzano recognizes the obligations assumed in the agreement and will now evaluate the means of executing them. The multinational, however, alleges that the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (Incra) has not yet carried out the necessary demarcations in the region.

The company Suzano Papel e Celulose informed, this Tuesday (7), that the Landless Workers Movement (MST) left all the properties in the south of Bahia that it had invaded last week. According to the manufacturer, the areas in the municipalities of Mucuri, Teixeira de Freitas and Caravelas have been released and the company is now investigating the damage caused by the MST.
