The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, announced this Thursday (28) that the Ministry of Finance transferred R$6.1 billion to savings to encourage the completion of secondary education for vulnerable students. The program, nicknamed “Pé-de-Meia”, was approved on the 20th by the Senate.
The expectation is that the amount of aid per student will be announced by the government next month. “The high school nest egg is coming and it’s already in the account. We have just transferred R$6.1 billion to the fund that will cover savings to encourage retention and completion for the most vulnerable high school students,” said Santana in a video on social media.
The initiative aims to benefit low-income students enrolled in public high school, belonging to families registered in the Single Registry (CadÚnico). The financial incentive will be granted through deposits into an account in the student’s name, linked to compliance with steps and movement restrictions.
The rule approved by Congress establishes criteria for access to the benefit, including enrollment at the beginning of the school year, school attendance of 80% of school hours, approval at the end of each school year, participation in assessments, among others.
