The president of the BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development), Aloizio Mercadante, says he is optimistic about the approval of the fiscal framework by the Chamber of Deputies later this week.
“We have great expectations. It is fundamental for the BNDES and for the country”, he told the Panel.
According to him, the fiscal framework, combined with Petrobras’ new pricing policy, helps to consistently lower inflation and pave the way for a reduction in interest rates in the country.
“By reducing fuel prices, this is one of the main components of inflationary pressure. Focus’s own research already shows a drop in inflation”, he projects.
The weekly Focus survey, by the Central Bank, this Monday (22), pointed to an inflation expectation of 5.80% for this year, a significant downward revision compared to the rate of 6.03% forecast last week.
Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) said that parliamentarians will work to approve, as quickly as possible, the new fiscal framework law later this semester. “I have no doubt that it will be approved in the Chamber, it will be approved in the Senate, and soon we will have a new fiscal regime in Brazil”.
He spoke after participating in a seminar at Sheet on the independence of the Central Bank.
