Mike Tyson sued for alleged rape in the 90s

A woman filed a lawsuit accusing the former boxing champion Mike Tyson of rape in the early 1990s, after she met him at a nightclub in the city of Albany, in the United States.

The woman, who is suing him for $5 million, said Tyson raped her in a limousine and that she has suffered “physical, psychological and emotional harm” since then.

The woman’s statement does not say the date of the alleged abuse, only stating that it happened in the early 1990s – around the same time as Desiree Washington said that Tyson raped her in Indianapolis. Tyson was convicted of that case on February 10, 1992 and served three years in prison.

The legal action in New York was brought under the state’s Adult Survivors Act, which gives victims of sexual assault a one-year window to sue for assaults that happened years or even decades earlier.

The woman said in her statement that she got into Tyson’s limousine and the boxer immediately started touching her and trying to kiss her “I said ‘no’ several times and asked him to stop, but he continued to attack me”, said the woman. “He then pulled my pants and viciously raped me.”

The woman is trying to maintain her anonymity because, she said, publication of her name “would certainly pose a risk to me of further mental harm, harassment, ridicule or personal embarrassment.”

The woman’s attorney, Darren Seilback, said in a separate filing that his office had not simply taken the woman’s word for it, but had investigated her claims and determined they were “highly credible.” Seilback said on Tuesday that he could not comment further on the case. A message from the report requesting Tyson’s comments on the case was sent to an agency representing him.
