The advisory of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) stated that former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro would not be “interested” in running for the 2026 elections. Brazilian mail on Sunday (5). Still according to the advisory, Michelle’s priority is the “PL Mulher”, the arm of the party of which she is president.

The name of the former first lady has been speculated to run for a seat in the Senate, the government of the Federal District and even to be the candidate for president of the Republic of the Liberal Party (PL) in 2026.

At the end of January, the national president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, stated that the party was evaluating the possibility of launching Michelle Bolsonaro as a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in the next election, if the former president was not interested in running in the election. The statements were made during an interview for the CNN Brazil.

When asked about the national majority election dispute, Costa Neto declared that the former first lady would be a strong candidate for the presidency in 2026 for the party, also citing the current governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo) and the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans). Currently, the two are not affiliated with the PL. Report by People’s Gazette showed that the PL is already discussing a “plan B” without Bolsonaro as the main candidate in 2026.
